What Does Fox News, SWTOR, and You have in common?

So, what do the fine folks over a Fox News have to say about the coming expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic?  Well, apparently it’s an expansion occurring on a gay planet for gay people.  Yep, you read that right folks … according to Fox News it’s an expansion devoted to a gay planet for gay people.  Fox focuses solely on the inclusion of same-gender romance arcs becoming available on Makeb and makes outrageous claims concerning the outrage of the player base.  The story fails to cover the expansion in any detail or the facts concerning same-gender romances.

So, once again let’s clarify same-gender romances will be available on Makeb when the expansion launches this spring.  These CHOICES will not be available with companions in the game and are options for players to explore if they so desire.  The planet of Makeb is not “gay”, as if a whole planet could be “gay”, nor is it a “gay” expansion.  Fox decided to latch onto one small aspect of an expansion that would sensualize their base of readers and viewers.

The universe of Star Wars is an inclusive universe and how can any rational, thinking adult believe that allowing same-gender romance arcs turns an entire planet or expansion gay?  Instead it’s just an option for those players uncomfortable, marginalized, or exclude with current romance options available in the game.  I applaud Bioware, EA, and the team at SWTOR for following through on their promise to include same-gender romance arcs into the story and for building an inclusive, accepting universe rather than an exclusive, judgmental, bigoted, and hateful universe.
