The first in-game cross-over content from the television series was released late yesterday afternoon. Details can be found here, if you did not see the episode on 13 May 2012 (aka Episode 5: The Serpent’s Egg) then I don’t want to spoil it for you. For those of you who have seen the Episode, go find Lawkeeper Jon Copper for missions.

Defiance: The Show & The Game
SyFy announced this morning that Defiance has been renewed for a second season. This means for all of you enjoying the space Western set in a much different St. Louis area, the fun and alien mayhem will continue next year.
We played the Defiance beta, and truthfully I never expected to go back and give the game another try. Hubby bought it the week it was released and he has a blast when he has time to play. He convinced me to give it another go this week and I’m glad I did. There is now a decent tutorial and much more immersive lore as to who, what, and why. In fact, the lore has been improved so much in-game that it has made the television series much more interesting to me.
I’m not going to lie, I die A LOT. No seriously, A LOT of dying and right now I seem to be stuck at one particular extraction point which is just irritating. However, hubby has promised to roll a new character and help me figure stuff out. I’m horrible at shooters and this is my first shooter on the computer. To say it’s challenging would be an understatement but it’s an enjoyable challenge and a very nice break from high fantasy games.

Firefall: Beta Weekend
Firefall beta began this morning and I promptly logged in to try it out. Half an hour after beta began, my computer is uninstalling the game. I have little patience for betas that can’t grab and hold my interest in the first five to ten minutes, and when the character creation is limited that time is even less. With two face options and three hair styles, I knew my interest in the game was going to be short lived.
The game was sluggish, yeah alright it is a beta but it is a beta Red 5 Studios deemed worthy of opening to the public for 48 hours, so servers should have been far more responsive then they were. The graphics are over the top large, cartoonish, and awful. Artwork leaves a lot to be desired. The voice acting I heard was awful, really one of the first voices you throw at me is a barely understandable Russian? By the time the tutorial forced me to buy a new class and equip it, I had enough. Option menu is difficult to read, and a convulsed mess.
If I want a MMO that is also a shooter, I can go play far more polished released, or about to be released, games like Planetside2 and Defiance.

This morning, Trion Worlds released the pre-order options for Defiance after this weekends beta weekend. There are two option, both of which give guaranteed access to all future beta weekends. The price points range from $59.99 for digital and $99.99 for physical copy. Only good news out of the price point announcements is that there is no subscription fee for the game. There is no option available for console purchase at this time.

Defiance: First true cross over television and MMO (Updated)
Defiance, set to premiere on Syfy in April 2013 is the first true cross over game that involves a television series and a MMO. The MMO is being produced by Trion World (the producers of Rift). The video makes almost no reference to the game itself, but beta signups to the game can be found here. Personally, I think the series looks amazing and so I’m doubly thrilled I’ve been signed up for the beta for a while now.
Update: Here is the trailer for the MMO aspect of Defiance:
