Thanks to the fine folks over at Massively, there is now a confirmation date of November 15th for the conversion to free-to-play.  Here’s a brief run down of what you need to know for the conversion:

  • If you are a former subscriber or purchased the game’s deluxe digital or collector’s edition, you must be a subscriber at the time of conversion (ie. on or before November 14th) in order to receive your free Cartel Market coins.
  • Game is designed to be entirely free-to-play from 1-50, just don’t anticipate a lot of perks for being a free player
  • Spending a mere, $4.99 US in the Cartel Market converts your account from free to preferred status, all previous subscribers are automatically Preferred Status
  • Items purchased from the Cartel Market are initial bound to character and then after three days become freely tradable and sellable to other players
  • Unlocks made by Preferred Members are unlocked permanently, even if you are, or convert to, free-to-play status
  • Subscribers earn substantial benefits, including but not limited to, a minimum of 500 free Cartel Coins a month
  • HK-51 Assassin Droid companion quest line begins with Game Update 1.5 on the 15th

  1. The Free-to-Play launch will definitely bring more players into the TOR Universe. This will be a huge step for the gaming community, as I would expect a great volume of players to follow this move. It is also great of them that the previous subscribers will have special benefits. :)
